LAHORE: Pakistan does not have a genuine university and none of its varsities are ranked among the top 1,000 universities of the world, said Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Ataur Rehman on Tuesday.
Addressing a select group of students and faculty members of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, at the university’s Dr Mahmood Senate Hall, Dr Rehman said that faculties should not sit back and wait for funds but should take initiatives themselves and seek funds for research on the basis of their creative projects. He said that faculty had a great role and the pressure was on them. “Faculties will have to step forward and face this pressure to compete with the world,” he added. He stressed that universities must focus on research and students should “think out of the box” for adding creativity to research.
