5 Pakistanis arrested in Afghanistan for fighting against Afghan government

Afghan local police arrested five Pakistanis on Thursday in the Afghan southern province of Zabul who had attended the fight against Afghan government last week, spokesperson of the Afghan Interior Ministry said.

"The five Pakistanis were arrested in Shar-e-Safa city of Zabul, and they have acknowledged to attend the fight under the flag of Taliban against Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and Coalition last week," Lutfulah Mashal said.

"They escaped to Zabul after Taliban was defeated in the battle, and intended to carry out another attack against US troops, but we arrested them before they started the action," Mashal added.

More than 100 Taliban militants were killed in the three-day fight with ANA, ANP and Coalition in the Afghan southern province of Kandahar that began on the night of June 20.

In the Afghan northern province of Saripul, four Pakistanis were arrested this week because of lacking enough and necessary document to enter Afghanistan, a local newspaper Cheragh reported Thursday.

The investigation is still going on, it added.
