Indo-US defence pact bothers Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed its concern over the defence pact between the United States and India, calling it an attempt to destabilise the region’s strategic balance. Foreign Office’s acting spokesman M Naeem said on Thursday that Islamabad was receiving details of the pact and was concerned about the advancement of weapons system in the region because it could harm the region’s strategic balance. He said, “While Pakistan is opposed to an arms race, it is committed to maintaining a credible minimum deterrence in both conventional and non-conventional areas,” adding, “Pakistan will always ensure its defensive capability and will respond appropriately to rectify any imbalance.” Naeem said. online
