MIRANSHAH - Security forces were rushed to seal the border after US-led allied troops camping in southern Afghanistan entered into Pakistani territory at Lawara Mandi area of North Waziristan Agency.
However, the allied troops returned to Afghanistan without conducting any raid or military action, high-ranking officials said on Saturday.
Sources said that around 80 personnel of the allied troops entered into Pakistani regions up to two kilometers in Lawara Mandi. Two US Apache helicopters were giving air cover to the troops.
Soon after coming to know about the move, the personnel and officers of Pakistani security forces approached the allied forces and convinced them on returning back to Afghanistan.
On the other hand, personnel of security forces have been dispatched to Lawara Mandi area of North Waziristan Agency for sealing the border. A convoy of 50 military vehicles with personnel of security forces on board reached in Enzargai village of Lawara Mandi from Miranshah, headquarter of North Waziristan Agency.
Highly-placed official sources said that the extraordinary movement of the security forces in Pakistani border areas and allied troops across the border is part of arrangements for an operation to be launched against the alleged al-Qaeda fugitives and other militants.
It was also speculated that the US-led allied troops have been trying to muster support of the tribal elders in border regions of both the countries. They had been making attractive offers to the local tribal elders and other people. Even in certain parts and pockets, they were offering establishment of schools and hospitals along with providing tractors and other such things to the tribesmen.
On the other had the alleged militants and Taliban, through handbills and leaflets, have asked the tribesmen to desist from accepting such offers.
Meanwhile, fearing resistance and clashes between the security forces and alleged militants a large number of tribesmen are leaving the border areas for safer parts of North Waziristan Agency.
